Visual Indicators (VIDs)

Conventional fire alarm visual indicators (VIDs) are devices that provide a visual indication of a fire alarm event. They are typically used as part of a conventional fire alarm system and are activated when a fire detector (such as a smoke detector) detects a fire. Visual indicators are designed to help alert people in the building to a fire alarm event.

They are only to be used in conjunction with electronic fire alarm sounders, which emit an audible alarm signal. VIDs are suitable for use as a supplementary warning device alongside audible sounders but are not suitable for use in locations where a visual warning needs to be the primary source of alarm.
