Dorgard is the easy, safe and legal solution to holding fire doors open, while automatically closing on the sound of an alarm. You often see fire doors being held open by boxes, wedges or fire extinguishers, but you may not be aware this is actually breaking the law. Dorgard is easy to install and will help you meet the fire regulations without having to fit an expensive and intrusive alternative. Dorgard installs in under 5 minutes!
How does the Dorgard help reduce the Spread of Germs?
Fire Doors must remain closed in the event of a fire but closed doors means handles and touch surfaces have to be used frequently which could spread germs such as COVID-19. However the Dorgard can be used to hold open a door reducing the need to touch door handles, which could be contaminated, whilst offering compliance with the law ensuring the door is closed in the event of a fire.

How Do Dorgards work?
Holding a door open couldn't be simpler. Push the door open to the required position and depress the plunger. The door will now stay open until there is a a sound above 65 db. Once the fire alarm sounds, the Dorgard will pick up the noise and after approximately 14 seconds, the plunger will push upwards releasing the fire door allowing it to close.
Automatic Timer Closing
Although the Dorgard can be used to hold open a fire door 24 hours a day, it is not ideal at night. The Dorgard has an Automatic Night Time Release feature. Dorgard has an internal clock, which allows the user to set a time for the Dorgard to automatically release a fire door. The Dorgard will then not operate as a hold open device until the next morning at a time set by the user. This allows the Dorgard to hold open doors during the working hours of the property & then release at a set time ensuring the fire doors are correctly closed when the building is not in use.
How to Operate A Dorgard
To hold the door open:
Open the door to the required 'hold open' position, or open fully against the bump stop of the floor plate (if fitted). Stand sideways to the door. Press the black knob on top of the Dorgard down using your foot. Greater foot pressure may be needed depending upon force from the door closer or the type of floor surface. Whilst depressing the black knob pull the door gently in the direction of closing. Remove your foot and let go of the door.
To release Dorgard manually
Lightly kick the black knob toward the door. Or push the door in the direction of opening. Dorgard can only be released by kicking the black plunger knob if a floor plate is installed. Dorgard Applications
Dorgard is ideally suited to hotels, office buildings, guest houses and any buildings where hard wiring door release mechanisms is not an option.
